Hands on STEM Activities and Lesson Plans for Teachers
Schools have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions where students further explore how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is applied to energy efficiency and sustainability. The breakout sessions include four lesson plans, each complete with a hands on activity that guides the students to think critically and apply what they’ve learned to real life scenarios.
Schools will then have the option to participate in breakout sessions where students further explore how STEM is applied to energy efficiency and sustainability. The Curriculum:
- Utilizes active hands-on learning
- Teaches critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Supports positive peer influence
- Promotes high self-efficacy
- Develops healthy attitudes
We understand the time and work you put into teaching students the importance of environmental sustainability. In order to help, we created a presentation and series lesson plans that enable students to apply STEM-minded thinking to energy and sustainability.
Below are the different objectives for each section. While we do provide guidelines, powerpoints, and activities to teach each lesson, please take the liberty to modify these to best suit your teaching style and needs.
greeNEWit will drop off teaching supplies for each grade about 2 weeks prior to the presentation. In the past we’ve found that the whole program works best when teachers plan to explore the lessons the same day as the presentation, creating more of a STEM day focused around the energy and the environment, but any way you choose to build it into your curriculum is great with us!
