COLUMBIA, MD - Jon Weinstein, Dr. Calvin Ball, Jen Terrasa, Mary Kay Sigaty, and Greg Fox of the Howard County Council recognized local sustainable firm, greeNEWit for being selected as a top 100 small business in America. On June 20th, the Council hosted a ceremony at the George Howard Building located in Ellicott City, Maryland to honor greeNEWit for its contributions to making Howard County a better place to live and work.

The Council recognition comes on the heels of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announcing greeNEWit as a winner of its annual DREAM BIG Blue Ribbon Small Business Awards®, recognizing 100 companies for their success and their contributions to America’s economic growth and vitality.

Selected from a record number of applicants from across the nation, greeNEWit was judged on strategic planning, employee development, customer service, and community involvement. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also honored greeNEWit for exemplifying the strong American values of hard work, innovation, persistence, and entrepreneurship.

The County Council consists of five members who serve four-year terms and who, since 1986, have been elected from five separate districts. There is a three term limit for Council members. The elected members of the Council, serve as the county's legislative branch, as the Zoning Board, and as the Liquor Board. They also provide constituent services for residences in their district.
