EARTH WEEK
with greeNEWit
Life is short, and the planet needs us. What better time than Earth Week to renew our commitment to building sustainable communities and better economies by reducing waste and reforming our relationship with the environment. All month long, we’ve been spreading our message at local events ranging from the Howard County Housing Fair to the Takoma Park Earth Day Festival.
Earth Week with greeNEWit just got sweeter as we’re providing energy education free in public schools through our creative social project, the OUR Schools Program. In the month of April, greeNEWit is reaching more than 3,750 elementary students in Howard, Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince George’s County in Maryland. Four presentations will take place during Earth Week and will feature an energizing energy efficiency assembly about the importance of saving the environment and taking action to improve our energy conservation. Teachers will be engaging the students in a variety of STEM-based lessons that explore the ideas covered in the presentation.

NAA GREEN CONFERENCE
greeNEWit sponsored the 2013 NAA Green Conference April 15-17, 2013 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.
The NAA Green Conference provided an opportunity for multi-family onsite professionals, suppliers, developers and rehabilitators to meet vendors that can offer them ways to cut costs and save money and energy. greeNEWit had a booth at the event to talk to building professionals about the company’s unique energy services that include consulting on energy-efficient building operations, common space area retrofits, lighting assessments and other techniques that can save property managers, homeowners and businesses money on their utility costs.
In addition to sponsoring the conference, greeNEWit hosted an exclusive NAA Green Conference Post Party at M&T Bank Stadium. This invitation-only event included a networking reception and sustainability-focused stadium tour with Jacqueline Lusk, LEED consultant at Lorax Partnerships.

ISAIAH ALLEN
Isaiah Allen, 20, of Columbia, Maryland has been working with greeNEWit for 13 months as an energy retrofit technician. Recently named the first ever Mr. greeNEWit, Isaiah was nominated by his peers as exemplifying greeNEWit’s core values most outstandingly and enthusiastically.
Isaiah has excelled in the following areas: safety, teamwork, professionalism, customer service, leadership and consistency.
An ambitious individual, Isaiah is excited about growing his career. His favorite thing about the job is meeting all the new people and traveling to the different apartment properties. He said he’s learning a great deal about the business world and energy efficiency in general. He enjoys interacting with customers, carpooling with the other crew members and helping people save money and energy. Outside of work, Isaiah enjoys playing basketball, being with family and music.

greeNEWit co-founder speaks AT UMD'S SOCIAL ENTERPRISE SYMPOSIUM
Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. What does it take to be one, and what are the challenges? Students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland had the opportunity to ask greeNEWit Co-Founder Josh Notes at the Creating Value Social Enterprise Symposium on March 1, 2013 at the Stamp Student Union.
Notes is one of five social entrepreneurs who are tackling issues ranging from education to the environment. He led the "Storytellers: From the Diaries of Social Entrepreneurs" session along with Marisa Stubbs, founder of Food for Life, Nick Martin, co-founder and president of TechChange, Natalia Oberti Noguera, founder and ceo of Pipeline Fellowship and Darius Graham, co-founder of DC Social Innovation Project.
This year’s theme, “Here and Now”, was a call to action for students to become more informed, motivated and active participants in everyday life. howard county HOUSING FAIR
On April 13, 2013, representatives from greeNEWit talked to residents in Howard County about home energy efficiency at the Come to Howard County Housing Fair. More than 1,400 people attended the free event and community members had the opportunity to receive a free credit report, learn more about quick home energy check-ups and possibly be the winner in a housing lottery drawing for two homes.

GREEN SCHOOLS
greeNEWit presented a poster board session at the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) 2013 Annual Conference February 8-9, 2013. More than 600 educators attended the event at the newly remodeled Princess Royale in Ocean City, Maryland.
MAEOE administers the Maryland Green School program, and all schools are certified through MAEOE. Schools interested in receiving the award complete an application that documents the school's program and activities during a two-year period. A panel reviews the applications and an award celebration is held in the spring.
Participants who attended greeNEWit’s poster board session at the conference gained an understanding of energy efficiency and how it pays back through energy savings, how to use utility incentives to save energy through energy efficiency and determine innovative ways schools can become green certified.
